The highest navigable lake in the world.
In the region of Puno, Altiplano plateau, between Peru and Bolivia, is the Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, more than 3820 meters. Its area is 8300 km2 of which 4700 km2 are in Peruvian territory. It was considered sacred by the ancient Andean cultures for both Quechua and Aymara, the two major ethnic families of ancient Peru, its waters emerged the founders of the Inca Empire, Manco Capac and Mama Occlo.
This lake is visited by tourists and scientists, who are impressed by the richness of its waters. It was declared a National Reserve and is home to various species of waterfowl, a dozen species of fish, several mammalian and 7 amphibians, including frogs endemic to giants.
It is very interesting to visit the floating islands made of reeds, over which the Uros, ancient people altiplano. Also attractive are the islands which are maintained ancient social and farming systems: Taquile, Amantani and Suasi.
In the city of Puno you can visit a colonial arquetectura sector as well as in the town of Juli, considered the Rome of America.

How to get there: By air daily flights from Lima (1 hour and 30 minutes). From Arequipa (30 minutes). Arriving at the airport in Juliaca.
